Before setting foot on the property to implement wireless systems, RLS-CMC completes due diligence with the property owner. The company ensures the owners understand the available technology options, review cost-saving opportunities, identify unrealized revenue, and take proactive steps to eliminate ongoing construction.

“We consider every project a partnership, and we want to intimately understand the owner’s wants, needs, and vision for its end-users. Besides costs, we make sure properties are ready for LTE and 5G coming down the pike. We safeguard against a property needing to undergo construction in a few years to upgrade systems, adding cost and disruption to guests,” added Chase.

For this specific resort project, RLS-CMC is implementing a converged WiFi network, public safety, DAS, and rooftop cell towers. The company is also taking care of the cabling and running fiber into each guestroom. “We have the capabilities to build a network that can control everything within the resort, from room keys to light switches to internet and WiFi. To make all this possible, we need to manage many stakeholders,” explained Chase.

More stakeholders can mean more costs to a project, and that’s where RLS-CMC’s cost-savings know-how comes into play. “Within the resort project, we identified over-lapping fiber costs and took control of the process,” said Chase. “Since the entire facility needed fiber, RLS-CMC purchased the materials in bulk, mitigating duplicate costs to build a robust fiber backbone throughout the property with the evolution of technology in mind.”

RLS-CMC also acts as a property owner’s representative to ensure all third-party contracts are appropriately negotiated. “Many technology agreements with internet resellers and back haulers plus managed service providers are complex,” said Sanchez. “It’s our responsibility as the property owner’s representative to guide them through these contracts and help them make the best decision for their property.”

For the Las Vegas project, Sanchez’s company met with AHJ representatives to understand requirements at the local level to pinpoint what would generate the most revenue opportunities for the property.

“We provided a comprehensive plan for the property and worked as an extension of the owner to make it happen. RLS-CMC created an RFP to be distributed to third parties, and we managed the process end-to-end,” said Sanchez. “We presented both the best technology and cost options to the owner.”

As construction is currently underway, RLS-CMC is building out all agreed-upon components while monitoring all activities to make sure deadlines and schedules are met, which will continue until the closeout phase of the project. RLS-CMC will also provide training before the project concludes, plus deliver post-close out services to ensure everything is working as envisioned.

The First to 5G

he race is on and RLS-CMC, Inc. is moving full speed ahead. Friday, June 15th RLS-CMC announced they have officially powered up the first ever 5G outdoor cell site in the nation in downtown Sacramento, CA, on behalf of their client. This particular carrier is in first place for the 5G race, beating all other carriers to 5G service. RLS is keeping speed, powering up four more cell sites on Tuesday, June 19th and it doesn’t stop there.

“I suspect we will have about 15 more on air within the month,” stated Amy Hodge, RLS-CMC’s OSP Director of Engineering & Construction.

RLS-CMC was a participant in a large team of highly qualified vendors along the way to 5G power. That being said, it is RLS’ proprietary scheduling and expertise with city inspectors and personnel, as well as, their close relationships with local contractors which saves their clients time and money while increasing coverage and capacity. With the number of cell sites they’ve already been awarded this year, RLS foresees a very busy year ahead.

2017 Is a Wrap

RLS-CMC, Inc. wraps up another successful year in 2017 with some especially notable projects.

Omni Interlocken: Broomfield, CO

Flowing slightly into 2018 was the completion of the Omni Interlocken Resort, located in Broomfield, Colorado. The Omni Interlocken measures 310,378 total sq. ft. RLS was able to complete the project to its entirety in an impressive three short months, installing a complex IDAS Spider Cloud deployment consisting of 50 service nodes (which include an internal antenna). However, no job is too complex for RLS-CMC. The installation was completed without taking any of the 390 rooms out service and minimizing disruptions to hotel guests and staff. Equipment rooms/IDFs were smaller than typical and the ceiling space was minimal requiring the technical expertise of the RLS team to install the equipment without damage.

Summerlin Mall: Las Vegas, NV

2017 also wrapped up the Summerlin Mall located in Las Vegas, Nevada. This outdoor mall required RLS to install a MIMO Corning Mobile Access MA2000 DAS. The mall area is 1,800,000 sq. ft. in total. RLS-CMC was able to complete this complex project in just four short months. RLS was able to showcase their expertise for both indoor and outdoor DAS while completing the Summerlin Mall. The daily activities of the tenants could not be interrupted during the installation and called for work to take place during minimal windows of time. The project required the coordination of multiple trades including electrical, carpentry, tile, roofing, scanning, coring, and specialty contractors. Stand-alone buildings needed to be connected through a mix of new, existing, and damaged pathways.

To date RLS-CMC, Inc. is proud to say a budget limit ever been exceeded and a timeline has never been missed.

Las Vegas, NV, September 6, 2015—RLS-CMC, Inc. has successfully completed the install of an Extenet Systems-owned and operated Distributed Antenna System (DAS) within another Las Vegas strip hotel. The DAS network will support multiple wireless carriers, and will extend coverage throughout the hotel's guest floors. Expensive existing finishes and ongoing hotel operations made for a challenging installation, the sort conducted exclusively by the industry’s top tier teams. Over the course of fifteen weeks, the RLS-CMC team was able to meet and exceed all expectations.

“I am proud of what RLS-CMC has accomplished. We were challenged to construct a robust wireless network for the use of the four major wireless carriers, as guests and staff required coverage over every square foot of the Hotel. We knew the network would have to be capable of uninterrupted service for no less than four hours in the event of a power outage, and that the installation of the network should be seamless and invisible to Hotel guests. The DAS installation project provided unique challenges and difficulties that are exclusive to luxury resorts. Due to year round occupancy rates of nearly 100%, the installation was completed while maintaining guest services. Las Vegas, NV, February 5, 2015—RLS-CMC, Inc. successfully completed the DAS installation of the Paris and Bally’s hotel towers, with the typical schedule cut in half. RLS-CMC was able to complete what one Caesar’s executive called “impossible.”

Both of the Las Vegas Strip casinos are consistently at maximum capacity throughout the year, while catering to the large amount of convention goers and tourists that the Las Vegas area attracts. Due to the high traffic nature of both venues, the schedule was compressed to accommodate the hotels and their guests. All tasks included in the installation became critical path activities and allowed zero room for error. The RLS-CMC team was able to rise to the challenge and complete the projects on schedule and, most importantly, satisfy their customers’ needs.

“The real challenge was completing sixty-nine floors concurrently,” said President of RLS-CMC, Inc., Roger Sanchez. “It took a tremendous amount of coordination to receive the floors on Monday morning and return the completed floors on Friday by noon. There was zero margin for error.”

RLS-CMC, INC. Completes Sheraton Network Updates In Time For Super Bowl XLIX

Local construction manager, RLS-CMC, Inc. completed network updates for carriers Verizon and AT&T at the downtown Sheraton ahead of this year’s Super Bowl festivities.

The Sheraton Phoenix Downtown will host numerous Super Bowl related events in the run-up to this year’s game. Many league personnel will be staying for a week or more.

“It is important that we provide our customers with the best possible experience at great events like the Super Bowl, and in great venues like the Sheraton hotel” said one senior deployment manager. “The men involved in this project installed the network the hard way, we’re pleased at what they have achieved, and all on time.”

A team of RLS-CMC engineers and network experts ran into numerous budgetary and scheduling challenges as work progressed. These included an unrelated fire which led to a five day venue wide shut down in November.

The upgraded network installed by RLS-CMC will increase wireless capacity at the downtown venue for an estimated ten thousand guests in the two weeks leading up to this year’s event. One Sheraton employee called the hotel “Super Bowl central.”
